Neela Hauz Lake, located next to Sanjay Van, was used to supply drinking water to South Delhi, once upon a time. Due to urbanisation and construction of road-bridge, the lake was nearly filled up except for a small depression that received sewage water. To restore the lake to its pristine state, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) declared the lake to be called as Neela Hauz Biodiversity Park. This lake is now restored using treated sewage water by Constructed Wetland Systems, a nature-based solution that functions with zero energy. Today, the restored lake, the green way with a walkway, the manicure lawns, the Phoenix grove, the butterfly corner and the constructed wetland system has made it a perfect destination for public and tourists for recreation and also for learning how constructed wetlands are useful in the treatment of sewage and help in rejuvenation of lakes and rivers.
