Bijay Mandal

Bijay Mandal

A forgotten snippet of history from the times of Khaljis and Tughlags, the fort of Bijay Mandal stands silently among the residential colonies of South Delhi. Dating back to the 14th century, the fort complex was built as a part of Jahanpanah, the fourth medieval city of the Delhi Sultanate.

It is considered to have been first constructed by Alauddin Khalji and later renovated by Muhammad bin Tughlaq. However, with most of it in ruins, archaeologists have been unable to decipher its purpose. Built of rubble masonry, the entire structure has been positioned on double raised platforms. While the fort doesn't boast of any historic significance, it's still worth a visit for the breathtaking views of sunrise and sunset visible from its top.
