Adham Khan's Tomb

Adham Khan's Tomb

Adham Khan's Tomb, located in Mehrauli is a 16th century historical monument that was built as a tribute to Emperor Akbar's General, Adham Khan and his mother, Maham Anga. It features an octagonal domed chamber surrounded by arched verandahs - a design not seen in any Mughal building of that period. The monuments architecture, which is distinctive of the Lodi dynasty (rivals of the Mughals), is believed to remind people of Adham Khan's treasonous act of killing Emperor Akbar's favourite General, Ataga Khan.

With people losing their way amongst its many maze-like passages, the tomb is also nicknamed Bhool Bhulaiya (labyrinth). Previously relegated to be used as a rest house, a police station and even a post office by the British, today the site has been restored and is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
